Colt Starting or Restarting an Older Horse

At Jabez Ranch you are required to take an active part of your horse’s program.  The horse will be assessed and the owner interviewed to ensure goals are established and that expectations are met.

We use the natural horsemanship methods of Reis Ranch Universal Horsemanship.

The program can be individually tailored to meet your personal goals and your horse’s abilities.

· Round Pen Work—Inside and outside turns as well as walk, trot, canter transitions

· Horse should lead and follow respectfully

· Sacking out and desensitizing to spooky objects

· Horse should be able to be tied and stand tied

· Be able to pick up all four feet well enough to be shod

· Be able to enter and exit horse trailer without a lot of fuss

· Be able to be saddled without a fight

· Bridaled without throwing his head or pulling away

· Give to halter/bridal with lateral and vertical flexion

· Lunge in both directions at a walk, trot, and canter

· Stand still for mounting

· Under saddle horse should be able to walk, trot, and canter in both directions and transition up and down through these gaits

· Horse should be able to stop and back up

· Learn to yield from leg pressure

Price: $850.00

Training starts on the ground and only progressed to under saddle once basic tasks are accomplished from the ground.  Horse owners are required to be involved in this process and programs.

All horses and people learn at different rates.  Individual results may vary.

Task Examples

Duration of the program will depend upon your needs and the horse’s progress.  Details and options will be discussed at the interview.

 

Stall included.

 

Owner must supply feed.

 

Owner is responsible for vet and ferrier services.

 

Horses must be halter broke, have feet trimmed, and vet checked to include negative Coggins.

 

Horses are worked approximately 1 1/2 to

2 1/2 hours per session.
